Singapore PR Processing Time and How to Check Your Application Status

ICA says PR applications are processed within 6 months if documents are complete, and status is checked on MyICA for submissions from 26 June 2024 onwards.

ICA states that permanent residence applications are processed within 6 months, provided all the required documents are submitted and are in order. ICA adds that some applications may take longer to process. You can check a PR application’s status online at MyICA or the ICA e-Service, and MyICA covers PR applications submitted from 26 Jun 2024 onwards. This article sets out the published timeframe, the status-check routes, what ICA says it assesses, the document checklist, and the fees due at submission and at completion of formalities.

How long ICA takes to process a PR application

Applications will be processed within 6 months, provided all the required documents are submitted and are in order. Some applications may take longer to process.

ICA conditions the 6 months on all the required documents being submitted and in order. If your file is still running past 6 months, read the current wording on Becoming a Permanent Resident before acting on it.

A processing timeframe is not a decision. ICA informs applicants of the outcome, and . This article does not give odds or approval rates.

The clock runs against a complete file. ICA frames the 6 months as applying where all required documents are submitted and are in order, .

How to check your PR application status

ICA routes status checks through MyICA and its e-Service. The Check Status/Make Appointment page lists Permanent Residence among the services you can check. The same page says you may log in to MyICA or enquire there for applications, including those not submitted through the e-Services.

For recent filings, ICA says you log in using MyICA to check Citizenship, PR and LTVP applications submitted from 26 Jun 2024 onwards. PMLA applications are covered from 27 Oct 2025 onwards.

For older filings, ICA says it informs you of the outcome by email or post for applications submitted before 26 June 2024.

Follow these steps in order:

  1. Register for a Singpass account if you are eligible.
  2. Wait for approval; ICA says Singpass approval may take 2 to 5 working days.
  3. Log in to MyICA using your Singpass. Open the permanent residence application you submitted.
  4. Read the status shown on the screen.
  5. For applications submitted before 26 June 2024, watch for ICA’s email or post.

ICA recommends starting an application only after all applicants have successfully registered for a Singpass account, where eligible. Every person added as an applicant must review the application form before it can be submitted. Reviewers log in with Singpass, or with unique login credentials that ICA provides for those ineligible for Singpass.

ICA states that mandatory Singpass login, with no proxy enquiries, applies to selected services. It names Passport, Identity Card, APEC Travel Card, Change of Address, Replacement of Address Sticker and Re-Entry Permit.

Employment Pass and S Pass holders apply under their own Singpass. MOM’s FAQ states that a work pass holder can obtain a Singpass on the Singpass website or at Singpass counters located islandwide. See As a work pass holder, how do I get a Singpass? for that answer in MOM’s words.

ICA takes into account the individual’s family ties to Singaporeans, economic contributions, qualifications, age, family profile and length of residency. It uses these to assess the applicant’s ability to contribute to Singapore and integrate into society, and his or her commitment to sinking roots in Singapore. ICA lists them together as factors it takes into account.

ICA also states that it has no affiliation with any external migration agency or commercial entity claiming to be a Singapore immigration specialist, consultant or partner. ICA does not support or endorse services by self-proclaimed professional immigration consultancy service providers for permanent residence applications.

ICA states who must log in to ICA e-Service using Singpass to sponsor or submit the application, and that all persons added as an applicant must review the form before it can be submitted. The categories and sponsors are set out in Singapore PR Eligibility: Who Can Apply Under Each ICA Category and Who Sponsors.

The employment letter must state your occupation, date of employment, and basic and gross salary per month.

Self-employed applicants submit the latest Business Registration Certificate from the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA), the latest 3 years’ balance sheets, and the latest 3 years’ profit and loss statements. Aged parent applications add documents for non-applying children: birth certificate or household register for births not registered in Singapore, latest income tax assessment or receipt if working overseas, and the latest 1 month pay slip.

Documents in languages other than English need certified true copies of the originals and official translations. ICA accepts translations from the embassy of the country or place that issued the document, from a notary public in Singapore or the issuing country or place, and private translations attested by that embassy or notarised by a notary public. ICA does not endorse any private translation companies or entities.

ICA warns that insufficient documentation may result in non-acceptance of your application. ICA may also require additional documents, and it may contact the main applicant or sponsor for supporting documents not on the checklist. The full list sits in the Document Checklist for Permanent Residence.

Fees, payment and refunds

StageFee
At submissionS$100 for each application
At completion of formalitiesS$20 for Entry Permit
At completion of formalitiesS$50 for a 5-year Re-Entry Permit
At completion of formalitiesS$50 for Singapore Identity Card

All fees are non-refundable, and payment is made online using a Visa or MasterCard credit or debit card, an American Express (AMEX) credit card, Internet Direct Debit, or PayNow. Internet Direct Debit covers DBS/POSB, OCBC, UOB and Standard Chartered Bank internet banking accounts in Singapore. ICA says successful applicants will be notified of other applicable fees subsequently.

ICA processes an application only upon successful payment. ICA advises using one payment mode per application, and if payment fails on the first attempt, clicking cancel and retrying rather than switching payment methods.

For PayNow, ICA generates a QR code with a unique reference code for each payment. ICA accepts PayNow payment only through that QR code and tells applicants not to pay using ICA’s UEN number; failure to pay using the QR code leads to an unsuccessful application.

The receipt appears in a pop-up window once payment succeeds. Save or print it before closing the window, because ICA states you will not be able to reprint it afterwards. ICA’s payments page is Payment/Refund FAQs.

Refund requests go to the relevant e-Service by email, using the contact details ICA lists. Include your application number, payment reference number and supporting documents such as a screenshot of the error message. If a refund is approved, ICA pays by credit refund for Visa, Mastercard or American Express payments, by PayNow refund to the account linked to your NRIC or FIN, or by internet bank transfer using Part II of the Direct Credit Authorisation (DCA) form.

Bank endorsement under Part III of the DCA form is required in three cases: the bank account is a joint or trust account; you are not a Singapore citizen or permanent resident and the account is not with DBS, POSB, OCBC or UOB; or the account was opened with a different ID. More information is provided upon approval of a refund request.

After the outcome: approval, formalities and National Service

Successful applicants receive an In-Principle Approval. They are granted permanent residence status once they have fulfilled the necessary conditions, and the formalities fees in the table above fall due at that stage.

PRs aged 15 years and above are issued the Singapore blue Identity Card. A PR needs a valid Re-Entry Permit to travel out of Singapore and return as a PR, and the 5-year Re-Entry Permit carries a fee of S$50 at completion of formalities.

National Service applies to all male Singapore citizens and permanent residents unless exempted, under the Enlistment Act 1970. After full-time NS they become Operationally Ready National Servicemen (NSmen), and an NSman’s obligation ends at the age of 50 years for officers or 40 years for other ranks.

All male applicants granted Singapore citizenship or permanent residence as a foreign student or under their parents’ sponsorship are liable for NS. They must register upon reaching 16 and a half years old, and are scheduled for enlistment into full-time NS at the earliest opportunity upon reaching 18 years old.

MINDEF allows students to attain educational qualifications up to the ‘A’ Levels certificate, the polytechnic diploma, or an equivalent pre-tertiary qualification before they serve NS. They are enlisted at the earliest opportunity when they have finished pre-tertiary education, or after turning 18 years old, whichever is later.

MINDEF does not grant deferment for university studies, regardless of whether such studies have begun, and those granted SC or PR mid-university must disrupt those studies to enlist if they cannot finish before their enlistment date.

Anyone who defaults on NS obligations by committing an offence under the Enlistment Act 1970 is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding S$10,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years, or both. Renouncing or losing PR status without serving or completing full-time NS has a serious adverse impact on later applications to work or study in Singapore or for long-term immigration facilities, and on family members’ applications, their sponsorship, Re-Entry Permit renewals and citizenship applications.

All male applicants are required to access the Central Manpower Base site for NS information before proceeding with the application. CMPB can be reached at 1800-3676767 (local), 65-65676767 (overseas), or contact@ns.gov.sg. ICA’s Becoming a Permanent Resident page carries the same warning.
